Bloody cheek! That’s not a castle!

There was a Roman fort, then a Moorish castle above Frigiliana. Or so they say. There’s not much evidence. There are, however, breathtkaing views of this beautiful place.

I walk a lot here; it’s one of the joys of nice weather and hardly any rain. I’ve documented two of them (Felix and Pinto), but the walks along the beach and around Nerja that often end up being miles, aren’t worth documenting. I plan to do a decent hike around once a week. The next will be El Fuerte which is further than the others, but I now have sticks and a little day pack that I’ll fill with water and little empanadas from the deli, and I’ll take myself off.

On the days I don’t plan a hike I’m doing a post-brekkie walk up to the Castillo. I’m near the top of town so I walk across to the Garden Restaurant (in case anyone is here and wants to find the starting point) and then start zig-zagging up the hill.

I’ll let the pictures do the talking, but it takes about 20-30 minutes according to fitness to get to the top, which is flattish and covered in grass and trees. There are also some nice but random sculptures on the way up.

And Jimmy! Jimmy, I’m informed, is the name of the donkey that lives in a stable attached to a cute little house. He wasn’t in when I took this photo. He’s a working animal, and it’s still the best way to move stuff about up here. There are signs warning you might come across donkeys as you walk up.

Anyway, this is what you get to see for not much effort. Not a bad start to each day.
